Kolkata, 2025 — Citizens of West Bengal can now access and verify their property information through the state’s digital land records portal, Banglarbhumi. The system allows residents to check ownership, Khatian details, plot information, and mutation status online, streamlining services that once required multiple office visits.

The Banglarbhumi portal has made access to land records in West Bengal faster and more transparent, offering services once restricted to government offices. While digital adoption challenges persist, ongoing awareness programmes and support centres are expected to widen access further.
What Are Digital Land Records in West Bengal?
The state government launched Banglarbhumi, under the Department of Land and Land Reforms and Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation, as part of India’s Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).
This portal offers citizens access to:
- Khatian (Record of Rights), detailing land ownership and share.
- Plot/Dag details, including area and classification.
- Mutation status, tracking ownership transfers after sale or inheritance.
- RS–LR (Sabek–Hal) mapping, which links old survey numbers to updated ones.
The initiative seeks to reduce disputes, improve transparency, and speed up real estate transactions.

Challenges and Citizen Access
While the portal has improved convenience, experts highlight challenges such as low digital literacy and limited internet connectivity in rural areas. To bridge this gap, the state has set up Bangla Sahayata Kendras (BSKs), where staff assist citizens in accessing online land records free of cost.
According to government officials, over 90 percent of land records in the state have now been digitised, though periodic updates remain essential to maintain accuracy.
